About the webinar

The development of biodiversity-focused digital twins of the ocean requires collaboration across science, technology and policy. This webinar will showcase how the Horizon Europe project DTO-BioFlow is supporting the integration of marine biodiversity data into the European Digital Twin Ocean through technical solutions, governance frameworks, and Demonstrator Use Cases (DUC).

Why join?

The webinar will provide an opportunity to:

  • Discover DTO-BioFlow solutions and Demonstrator Use Cases for marine biodiversity data
  • Learn how biodiversity data can flow into EMODnet and the European Digital Twin Ocean
  • Explore approaches for FAIR and sustainable data flows
  • Exchange experiences with international initiatives and networks, such as the UN Ocean Decade
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration, data integration and future uptake

Who should attend?

The webinar is aimed at stakeholders working on:

Digital twins of the ocean | Marine biodiversity | Ocean data | Ocean observing | Data infrastructures | Biodiversity monitoring | Policy and governance

This includes representatives from international DTO initiatives, UN Ocean Decade endorsed activity (projects, programmes, contributions and other coordinating bodies), ocean observing initiatives, marine data networks and biodiversity monitoring programmes.

What to expect?

The two-hour webinar will showcase key DTO-BioFlow solutions and Demonstrator Use Cases, while positioning the project within an international context, such as the UN Ocean Decade. It will also highlight the journey from data collection and mobilisation to application within a digital twin environment.

A moderated discussion will then provide an opportunity to exchange experiences, identify synergies and explore ways to sustain and expand the project's impact through stronger links with existing networks and initiatives.

UN Ocean Decade & DITTO – Digital Twins of the Ocean Summit

The webinar will be co-hosted with the Decade Coordination Office for Ocean Data Sharing (DCO-ODS) and endorsed as an official UN Ocean Decade Activity.

As part of the DITTO Summit 2026 Pre-Summit Training events, the webinar will contribute to international efforts to strengthen collaboration around marine biodiversity data and digital twins of the ocean.

DTO-BioFlow contributes to the UN Ocean Decade by improving mobilisation and integration of marine biodiversity, as well as supporting:

  • Understand and beat marine pollution
  • Protect and restore marine ecosystems and biodiversity
  • Create a digital representation of the ocean
  • Skills, knowledge, technology and participation for all
