Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn Napoli

The ZOOGoN-40Y project builds on 40 years of zooplankton monitoring in the Gulf of Naples, led by the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn. Since 1984, the MareChiara research program has collected data on zooplankton abundance and diversity, tracking environmental variability and climate change. 

This project will curate and harmonise data from 1984–2024, ensure quality control, and update species records—including non-indigenous species—to improve understanding of long-term biodiversity trends in the Western Mediterranean. The resulting dataset will contribute to the development of the Digital Twin of Ocean, supporting marine ecosystem monitoring and informing climate change research and management strategies.
