DTO-Bioflow Matchmaking Event 4: Supporting Marine Protected Area Management with Digital Services – Phase 4 | DUC 5

On 13 May 2026 at 1 PM, the fourth phase of the Matchmaking Event 4 will define the monitoring priorities for deep-water habitats and future monitoring programmes.

What Will Be Discussed

Participants will review available monitoring material from deep-water environments, including habitats subject to different protection measures such as hard-bottom habitats, soft-bottom habitats and areas affected by trawling restrictions or fishing bans.

Discussions will focus on how knowledge generated through DUC5 can support the design of a future monitoring programme, with particular attention given to deep hard-bottom habitats in Kosterhavets National Park.

Key topics will include:

  • Investigation of community structure over time.
  • Assessment of sensitive and endangered species.
  • Identification of characteristic species for protected habitats.
  • Availability of control areas and complementary datasets.
  • Opportunities to integrate existing material from other parties (CABs) and other sources.

The meeting will also discuss future activities related to the inventory of image and video material and the development of machine learning models to support monitoring activities.

Participants

  • County Administrative Board (CAB) Västra Götaland
  • University of Gothenburg (UGOT)

Looking Ahead

The outcomes of this consultation are expected to contribute to broader regional collaborations and future pilot activities focused on long-term monitoring needs.
