DTO BioFlow project partner, Sharif Islam - Naturalis, will take part at the upcoming joint conference of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) and Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG). This hybrid event will be held in Okinawa, Japan, from September 2nd to 6th, 2024, offering attendees the flexibility to participate in person or online.
Event Highlight: Symposium 06 - “Biodiversity Data Standards and FAIR in Prototyping Biodiversity Digital Twins”
Sharif Islam and his colleagues will lead Symposium 06, focusing on the vital role of data standardization and FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) in the development of biodiversity digital twins. The symposium will address the significant challenges posed by the dynamic and diverse nature of biodiversity data, including issues related to data incompleteness, integration, and the need for standardization to ensure effective modeling and conservation efforts.
The DTO-BioFlow project, which aims to create a Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO), directly addresses these challenges in the marine domain. Despite the richness of marine biodiversity in European seas, the data remain largely non-FAIR, impeding the development of accurate models for predictions and conservation priorities. Through this symposium, the DTO-BioFlow initiative seeks to advance data integration and interoperability, essential for building robust digital twins that can be used across various research and conservation applications.
Stay tuned for insights from this event as we work towards the future of biodiversity data management and digital twinning.
