The DTO-BioFlow project was prominently featured at the United Nations Science Summit 2024 during a dedicated workshop on September 26th, 2024. This high-profile event, hosted in New York City, coincided with the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) and focused on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through science, technology, and innovation.
Our Project Coordinator, Klaas Deneudt from VLIZ, delivered a presentation outlining the DTO-BioFlow project's contributions to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. This session, part of a broader workshop organized by LifeWatch ERIC, brought together leading experts from the fields of biodiversity, ecology, and engineering to highlight the impact of collaborative initiatives on the UN SDGs.
The event was designed to provide participants with a unique opportunity to engage with global experts on the intersection of science, technology, and biodiversity. Presentations explored how digital innovations and European research initiatives are supporting the achievement of the SDGs through enhanced data sharing and global cooperation.
Key sessions addressed the collective efforts of international networks like DTO-BioFlow in tackling biodiversity loss, and the broader role of European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and Digital Twin projects in driving this mission forward.
This workshop underscores DTO-BioFlow’s active role in fostering a coordinated international effort to integrate biodiversity into global sustainability strategies. With the UN Summit of the Future and the post-SDG agenda on the horizon, this is a timely opportunity to explore how cutting-edge scientific research and digital tools can help shape a more sustainable future.
