Bodø, Norway

DTO-BioFlow will be featured at the 58th European Marine Biology Symposium (EMBS 2025), taking place in Bodø, Norway, from 6–9 July 2025. This annual gathering brings together leading marine scientists and institutions from across Europe to share the latest research and technological developments in marine biology.

On 8 July at 14:00, DTO-BioFlow advancements will be presented by Arne Berre from the project partner SINTEF in a dedicated session chaired by Stelios Katsanevakis. The intervention, titled "Digital Twin of the Ocean for Monitoring and Management of Marine Biodiversity," will highlight how DTO-BioFlow contributes to developing digital tools that support the monitoring, understanding, and sustainable management of marine ecosystems.

Christian Nilsson, a student of DTO-BioFlow partner Prof. Matthias Obst (RISE), will also present his research “Depth Learning – using Digital Twin of the Ocean resources to uncover ecological trends in a Swedish MPA”.

The session will explore how Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO) technologies can provide integrated, data-driven insights into the health and dynamics of marine biodiversity. As marine ecosystems face increasing pressures from climate change, pollution, and human activity, DTO-BioFlow aims to equip researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders with advanced capabilities for adaptive marine management.

EMBS 2025 is hosted by Nord University in collaboration with the EuroMarine Network, building on the success of recent symposia held in Naples, Italy (2024) and Iceland (2023). This year’s event will provide an excellent opportunity for exchange among marine biologists, ecologists, and digital innovation experts working at the intersection of science and technology.
